FAQs

Where Are You Located?

My office is centrally located in Ann Arbor at 2058 S. State. I am on the second floor, across from the Probility Phisical Therapy office.

How Often Should I Get a Massage?

For clients not actively working on rehabilitating an injury or problematic area, I recommend one massage every 4-5 weeks. If you are working to resolve an issue though, I may recommend as frequently as once a week for a limited period of time to get the results you are looking for.

Should Massage Hurt?

If massage hurts, it should only be in the sense that it “hurts so good”. The phrase “no pain no gain” does not apply here. I always tell my clients that massage should never be over a 6 out of 10 on the pain scale. If the technique being used is greater than that, we risk increasing tension and stress in the body, not decreasing it, which is the whole goal!

Open communication is a very important part of massage. Always let your therapist know if something is uncomfortable or painful.

How Much Clothing Should I Remove for a Session?

In the past, you may have heard a Massage Therapist tell you to “undress to your level of comfort”. It will always be up to you to decide how much clothing you would like to remove during a session. Your body will always be covered by a sheet, except for the area that I am working on.

I frequently recommend undressing down to the underwear for the best experience. Typically, women will remove their bra in order to allow for better access to the musculature of the shoulders and back.

What Should I Expect After a Massage?

It’s good to drink lots of water after a massage (and all day everyday, whether you get a massage or not!). Oftentimes after a massage it’s common to get what I affectionately think of as “massage brain”. It’s a great feeling! The perfect combination of relaxed, grounded, and peaceful.

That being said, if you are actively working with an injury or a particularly stuck spot, you may feel a lot of relief after your session, but it is not uncommon for it to take a few sessions to really get long lasting relief...especially if it’s an injury you’ve been working with for years!
